ADCO's Falcon club

Mr. Saqr Al Mehairbi is an ADCO employee who served the company for five decades, he is one the first Emirati managers in ADCO who managed several departments, in 1986 he created ADCO’s Falcon sports club with the support from ADCO’s management and established sport teams which included Football, volleyball, basketball, fishing, Karate, Judo and Tennis

As I interviewed MR. Saqr about his great venture we went through the history of ADCO in general and his career, he first joined ADCO 1965 as a trainee until 1969 he worked as an operator for oil and gas in Habshan and Bu Hasa.
He later became a comp foreman and was responsible for accommodations; aviation and transport vehicles then took courses in England for special aircraft attending, aviation and airport management. Then I was promoted to manage all of ADCO’s aviation fields and services, then in 1978 then was promoted to be purchasing assistant manager and handled all of ADCO’s purchasing’s for oil fields supplies as he was in charge of 36 oil rigs, then in 1986 he was promoted as a manager for general services.

As I asked Mr. Saqr on how did he start ADCO’s sport and catering club which is called the Falcon club he said “In 1982 I have requested our top management to give me further courses in catering in England which they have provided and then when I returned, I came up with an idea to start a sport league for all of ADNOC’s companies which have included sports teams for Football, volleyball, basketball, fishing, Karate, Judo and Tennis the idea went to the higher management of ADNOC and they supported the idea and enforced it on all of the group companies which included ADCO and I named the club the Falcon club, then we started the football league which included all of the companies.”

The first league was sponsored by sheik Tahnon bin Mohammed which happened in 1986 and the league consisted of 8 teams which were
·         ADCO
·         ZADCO
·         ADNOC
·         ADMA
·         UDECO
·         GASCO
·         ADOC
·         Distribution Company
Overall ADCO achieved 2 championships that were sponsored by the sheiks and 13 that were sponsored by ADNOC.

The falcon club today still stands and has been improved and developed and it is only accessible by ADCO’s employees and their families.

Reflection

Cobra Fitness is basically a martial arts gym where people would go there and join there to learn the various styles of fighting. The gym mainly teaches Muay Thai (kick boxing) also boxing and Brazilian Jit Jitsu. The gym's owner and main trainer is a former Muay Thai middle weight champion, He first came to the UAE in 2006 working in hotels then he came up with an idea to start a Muay Thai fitness gym, He gave private classes to groups and slowly started getting recognition in Abu Dhabi, His name is Matt Dryden.
The gym is mainly for people who want to get lean. It is not the place for people who want to get bigger , the training they offer is basically to sculpt your body into the shape of a Greek figure statue; they offer various classes on different days of the week. I personally take three classes with the gym which are;
 - fighters fitness: this is where they mix boxing and Muay Thai.
 - AB destruction: 45 minutes of intense exercise focusing on the abs region.
 - boxing class: this is a boxing where you train with your partner.
I would recommend this gym for people who want to lose weight and get leaner; the best thing about their training is that it is fun to do and it will become an addiction to you like a drug; the more you take their classes the more you would want to come back got more.
I started going to this gym since 2013 and I have gained amazing results I got leaner, gained muscles and became more flexible. I also learnt to how to box and defend myself when I have to.
The gym also offers classes for ladies where they can learn how to fight and they offer yoga classes for them where they can stretch and become more flexible.
There are also classes for kids where can learn the fighting art of Jit Jitsu where they only offer it on Fridays.
